The incredibly white NAACP leader
by Simon inthis is a bizarre story.. there is a woman who is the local leader of the naacp who is obviously trying to mislead people into believing she is black who is actually white.
very white.. she obviously gets a tan regularly but looks more orange.
yes, orange really is the new black!.

What a quack. I read the part of where she contacted the police about the envelope delivered to the NAACP post box with threatening images of blacks with targets on them, pictures of actual lynchings, and pics of guns directed at the camera. Only problem ... in every postal jurisdiction on the planet, to postal workers cancel the stamps and there is usually some sort of marking indicating where the letter originated from. This envelope showed up with just the stamps. Police said the only people who could have done it were postal employees or anyone who had a key to the box. Absent some Nazi postal employee conspiracy (who would have had the ingenuity to conveniently mark the envelope to mask their trail), I'm going to say there's a pretty good chance that it came from her. What a sick f**k to pull such a stunt in order to drum up publicity!? And what a waste of police resources and huge liability to any organisation she is affiliated with. No one is saying she can't be an advocate. But putting on blackface and pulling off racist stunts for publicity is one good reason why this woman should be mopping floors. -

The cost of living is high in NYC. It makes perfect sense for them to move upstate to their own compound and tend to their flock there. CT Russell moved to Brooklyn from Pennsylvania to be more centrally located globally speaking in order to effectively promote what was then a little-known Second Adventist sect. Now with their focus on their website, you no longer need to be literally in the middle of everything to be noticed. -

Does Bruce Jenner (Caitlyn) qualify for Baptism?
by John Aquila inim not sure if bruce had a sex operation but lets say someone did have a sex operation and then studied with the witnesses and wanted to get baptized, would he qualify in todays jw world?
could he have privileges?
the bible says the past cant be held against you, once you accept the truth.

As I understand it, this thread is a case of demonstrating absurdity by being absurd. Yes, Caitlyn Jenner would indeed be required to become Bruce Jenner again to qualify for baptism as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. In addition, she (now he) must renounce all claims to being a woman and complete the re-transition into a man. Any genital mutilation or hormonal issues that would come as a side effect would have to be taken care of by Jehovah after Armageddon once He makes Bruce (formerly Caitlyn) into a perfect human being.
It's a shame something like that didn't happen while the person still was officially in the organization, because that would make for one hell of a local needs talk.

I think the WT believed their own "growth" statements - Financial Trouble Thoughts
by thedepressedsoul inwe've all read, heard and have seen in the videos where jw's and their leaders talk about the "huge" growth that is taking place.
they've talked about how many kh they needed, branches etc... .
our co last visit he mentioned how quickly the organization is speeding up and the huge growth they are seeing.

My guess is that they will find a crafty way to track donations and from whom. If they haven't already, perhaps implicitly making not only donating but donating what is expected of you as a vital part of "sacred service". The "local needs" talks only serve to impose a collective guilt. Threatening people's "privileges" for not putting Kingdom interests first would be a way to bring it to a more personal level. -

The Iraqi Problem - an Overview and Solution
by Village Idiot inmuch has been said about muslims and iraq but little historical information has been given to understand the context.
context is important in understanding anything especially with regards to conflicts.
islam and the conflict in iraq requires knowledge of at least four different parties with a general understanding of their ideology.. islam was founded around 622 c.e.

A huge geopolitical blunder in my opinion. This is what happens when British and French diplomats set arbitrary lines down after the Ottoman Empire collapses and attempt to place Hashemite monarchies in their place. Jordan is the only one that survived because it wasn't really a country in the first place - just isolated desert oases on the ass-end of Palestine (which was a part of Syria itself). Who knows what would have come out of that mess if this hadn't been done, but I think I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. -

Mormon 'support' for gays, pressure on the WTS?
by Simon inthe mormon / lds church has noticably changed it's stance toward homosexuality and instead of condemning it seems to be supporting protection for people's rights (of course they want to throw some protection for themselves in there as well).. how will this affect the wts?
the lds is the more-successful counterpart to the wts, similar age and history and same non-mainstream appeal.. i have no doubt that the lds church is only changing because they know which way the wind is blowing and society has completely changes it's attitudes towards gay people.
maybe they just want to stay ahead pf the curve before federal legislation enforces people's rights.. now, can we see the wts changing their views" will they be one of the last holdouts?

There have been and continue to be prominent Mormons in politics. They must be tired of having to explain the reasoning behind the fact that the church didn't allow blacks in until rather recently as well as other inconvenient information. Softening their stance on the gay issue is likely in part meant to decrease the pressure on Mormon candidates taking more progressive positions and not having to go directly against their church. Since JWs don't have this ambition, it gains them nothing in the short term to lighten their tone on this matter. -

If Your JW Parent Died Would YOU Go To The Kingdom Hall For The Talk?
by minimus ini would like your thoughts, please..

Of course I would go. I ignored most of the content in the meetings for years whilst attending, I think I can tolerate one final evangelising session. Not that I would necessarily be welcome in any way, but I refuse to attend any JW post funeral talk events. I will give respect where respect is due for the deceased. Just because they don't have any respect for the dead or living doesn't mean that I have to follow that example.

He's probably enjoying the fact that people are still talking about him, which is well-deserved considering all that was happened lately. Leave it open, maybe he'll stop by in one form or another. Let's keep doors open, not close them.

For me the definition of a 'hate group' in the traditional sense would be a group that either inspires or directly commands their members to do everything from creating disturbances to outright violence. Granted, the WTS encourages shunning of former members and even to 'loathe' them, but I have never heard of an instance where JWs caused a disturbance with apostate protesters, burned a cross on someone's lawn, or incited riots. You could get an ornery JW who might speak hateful thoughts about unbelievers, but when it comes to putting this into practice, JWs are generally peaceful people. The argument can be made that shunning is indeed hatred, and I would agree with that assessment. If only real hate groups such as religious extremists, nationalists, KKK, etc just shunned and ignored people that they hated, the world would be a much better place indeed.
